The Eagles list of interview candidates for the head coaching position grew to five with the report of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson coming to Philadelphia for an interview on Sunday.
Pederson cannot interview until he has completed coaching the Chiefs on Saturday in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs. The Chiefs have granted permission for the interview to take place, win or lose, but the Eagles can't officially offer the job to a coach on a playoff team until they are eliminated.
The newest candidate to the list is in a similar situation as Pederson. The Eagles have requested an interview with Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, who will help coach Cincinnati on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Guenther, 44, hails from Richboro, Pa. and has several years of coaching experience in the area, first playing and then serving as head coach at Ursinus College from 1997 to 2000.
He spent two seasons with the Washington Redskins as an assistant in 2002 and 2003. Guenther has been with the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff since 2005 and took over as defensive coordinator in 2014.
Guenther is interviewing with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Eagles have only put in the request and do not have a confirmed interview as of yet.
The Eagles have already interviewed running back coach Duce Staley, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase and New York Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.
