Phillies set to oppose former general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., Red Sox

FORT MYERS, Fla. — For the first and likely only time of 2016, the Philadelphia Phillies (14-8-3) will oppose their former general manager and current Boston Red Sox (11-14-0) first base coach Ruben Amaro Jr. Sunday afternoon at JetBlue Park at Fenway South.

Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff, who is expected to earn a spot within the Phillies' rotation, will make his second Grapefruit League start of the spring.

Eickhoff, 25, has also made two intrasquad starts this spring, allowing three earned runs in two innings on March 12, and one earned run in four innings on March 17.

The right-hander missed the first few weeks of spring training with a fracture in his right thumb.

Wright, 31, will make his fourth start of the spring and his first appearance out of five overall at the Red Sox' spring training facility. The three-year veteran is likely to be named Boston's fifth starter in the rotation which features 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner David Price, according to the Boston Globe.

  • Eickhoff has one career appearance against the Red Sox, which occurred on Sept. 6, 2015, at Fenway Park. In four innings, the right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out a regular season career-low one batter in the 6-2 defeat.
  • The Phillies' reunion with Amaro Jr. comes five days after his nephew, Andrew Amaro, was released by the organization. Andrew was drafted in the 35th round of the 2015 amateur draft out of the University of Tampa. Last season in 20 combined games with the short-season Williamsport Crosscutters and Lakewood BlueClaws, he batted .218/.368/.255 with just two doubles and five-runs-batted-in over 69 plate appearances.
  • Phillies' first baseman Ryan Howard will not make the trip to Fort Myers, as he will get at-bats in a minor league game at the Phillies' Clearwater complex, according to Meghan Montemurro.
