One person attends Lehigh Valley IronPigs 2016 opener

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have had a unique start to the 2016 season.

After their four-game season-opening series with the Syracuse Chiefs was initially altogether cancelled due to snow, the IronPigs moved two of the games to Coca-Cola Park Friday, as part of a double-header.

But as Rob Vaugh of 69 News WFMZ notes, their Jamie Stover was only person in the stadium for the game due to a technicality that kept fans from being able to attend the game.

According to the article a pair of fans did attempt to implore the "Angels in the Outfield" strategy of watching the game from outside of the stadium, and were surprised to learn that on a 40 degree day they were the only fans with that idea. (For those of you not entirely familiar with the Lehigh Valley, allow me — as someone who grew up there, to tell you that stuff like this is indeed par for the course in the area.)

As for the games themselves, the IronPigs looked awfully like their major league affiliate. In game one, top pitching prospect Jake Thompson was impressive, only for major league veteran Edward Mujica to blow a lead in an eventual loss. In game two, the story was much of the same, with Luis Garcia and Andrew Bailey this time combining to waste the solid effort of Adam Morgan.

Only two games of the four game series were immediately rescheduled because in the Lehigh Valley, and much of eastern Pennsylvania, it is snowing today.
