Final: Cubs 4, Phillies 1 ❖  Attendance: 41,555

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Cubs offense was held to just four runs, but the Phillies only managed one late run, giving the Chicago Cubs their second consecutive win against the Phillies in as many days.

Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff was not terrible, but thanks to the wind he was kept from a quality start.   Eickhoff allowed eight hits total and struck out seven en route to his seventh loss of the season.

WP: Kyle Hendricks (3-4, 2.93 ERA)  ❖  LP: Jerad Eickhoff (2-7, 4.07 ERA)  ❖

This game was all about Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks, who went the distance, allowing just one late run to the Phillies, while the Cubs offense managed enough off of Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff to make the difference.

The Cubs got off to a quick lead in the bottom of the first when leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler hit a wind-aided home run just over the left-field fence to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.   The Cubs would get another in the first inning after Ben Zobrist doubled home Jason Heyward, who doubled himself.   Three extra base hits in the bottom of the first meant a 2-0 Cubs lead.

The Cubs would get another in the second inning when Jason Heyward doubled home shortstop Addison Russell, giving the Cubs a 3-0 lead.

The Cubs added their fourth and final run in the sixth inning on a Miguel Montero RBI ground out.  The four runs scored by the Cubs would be enough.

Hendricks got very close to a complete game shutout, but Freddy Galvis kept the game from being scoreless for the Phillies.  The Phillies only run came in the top of the ninth inning.  On a Ryan Howard strikeout, Galvis scored from third base on a dropped strike three and throw to the first.
