Nola struggles while Nationals’ Roark blanks Phillies

 Phillies: 0, Nationals: 8

WP: Tanner Roark (5-4, 2.93 ERA)  LP: Aaron Nola (5-5, 2.98 ERA)

It was a tough start to Aaron Nola's day through the first two innings. He struggled with his command and was laboring pretty good and got touched up for four runs in the 2nd inning. Nola would rebound in the third, striking out the side. After allowing a Ben Revere double to lead off the 4th, he would get two outs but was lifted for Elvis Araujo to face Bryce Harper who he would strike out, keeping Nola's ERA under 3 for the season. Nola has been the team's best pitcher this season and he'll look for better results against the Blue Jays next Thursday.

In the 5th, Araujo would allow two hits and find himself taking a set for Andrew Bailey would would surrender a hit from Anthony Rendon to drive in two more runs. Stephen Drew, who has turned into quite a Phillies killer, drove in his second run of the day on a sacrifice fly.

The Phillies really couldn't do much against Tanner Roark this afternoon. While they did threaten a few times in the early innings, Roark kept them off the boards for seven really strong innings, striking out seven.

The Phillies will attempt to leave Washington with a win tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 as Adam Morgan and Joe Ross are scheduled to square off. In the meanwhile, those of you who wish to see Phillies pitching prospect Ben Lively can check him out on WFMZ at 6:30 as the IronPigs take on the Durham Bulls. Lively has pitched very well since joining Lehigh Valley going 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA.
