Phillies seek offensive breakout against Koehler, Marlins

Miami, FL — The Philadelphia Phillies (46-55) are looking to build off of last night's 4-0 victory over the Miami Marlins (53-46). The shut-out was the team's Major League-leading eleventh of the year, and the second on their current road trip. A Phillies win tonight would secure a series victory, which would be the team's first since the All-Star break.

Phils starter Jerad Eickhoff and Marlins hurler Tom Koehler are facing off again, just five days after their last match up. Eickhoff and the Phillies are looking for a different result this time around. Koehler has had the Phillies' number all season and the offense hasn't been able to provide the starters with the run support that's needed. It's odd that he's been so dominant against the Phils this year, after allowing 15 runs in 21 innings last season. The Phillies are trying to counter with more left handed hitters in the lineup, but it's unclear if that will help break Koehler's control over the Phils' bats.

Starting Pitching Matchup:

Philadelphia Phillies (46-55) Miami Marlins (53-46)
RHP Jerad Eickhoff RHP Tom Koehler
(6-11, 3.98 ERA) (7-8, 4.42 ERA)

Phillies right hander Jerad Eickhoff is returning to Marlins Park for the first time since his first major league win on August 21, 2015. However, he hasn't fared as well against the Fish this season, going 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA. In his last start, also against the Marlins, he allowed five earned runs on nine hits on his way to the loss.

Marlins starter Tom Koehler is coming off one of his best starts, both against the Phillies and of the season. Last Thursday, he threw eight innings and allowed one earned run on two hits. This season, Koehler has a 1-1 record with a 1.64 ERA against the Phils.
