Sixers get first look at John Wall in second matchup with Wizards

By Brandon Apter, Sports Talk Philly Editor

The Philadelphia 76ers (1-3) are set to square-off against the Washington Wizards (1-2) this evening at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C tonight at 7:00 p.m.  The two teams have already met once during the preseason, a 125-119 double overtime victory for the Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center. Tonight, the Sixers will have a tougher test with John Wall back from injury. He didn't not play in the first match-up last week in Philadelphia.

The Sixers are coming off of their most lopsided loss of the preseason, a 121-91 defeat at the hands of the Memphis Grizzles. They shot under 40 percent all game, but managed to lock things up at 53 heading into half-time before the Grizzlies pulled away in the third, outscoring the Sixers 37-13. Despite the big difference on the scoresheet, Joel Embiid had his strongest performance in exhibition play, scoring 13 points to go along with five rebounds and a block. Embiid was efficient in getting to the line, hitting seven of his eight shots from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, 24th overall pick Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot had his best showing as well, dropping 13 points while grabbing a team-high nine boards. He's averaging 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds through four games.

After defeating the Sixers in Philadelphia last week, the Wizards lost a close contest to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday, 90-88. The obvious bright spot for the Wizards, though, was the return of injured guard John Wall, who came back and played 16 minutes, scoring eight points and tallying four assists. Bradley Beal led the way for the Wiz with 17 points while the Knicks got 19 points from Carmelo Anthony.
