Phillies Shortstop Freddy Galvis to Miss World Baseball Classic

Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis recently helped his Aguilas De Zulia team with the Venezuelan championship.  For players like Galvis, getting to represent one's home country is important, especially since his primary job is in the United States.   That is why Galvis was set to take part in team Venezuela for the 2017 World Baseball Classic.  Unfortunately, an injury appears to have gotten in the way of those plans.

Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly reports a tight groin muscle will keep him out of this year's contest:

This would have been the first World Baseball Classic for Galvis.

A tight groin generally requires some stretching and rest.  It would appear right now that Galvis would be ready for the regular season.  But with the World Baseball Classic tournament beginning on March 6, Galvis will have to sit this one out.

Team Venezuela will still have fellow Phillies Jeanmar Gomez, Edubray Ramos, and Odubel Herrera.
