Phillies to wear patch honoring Dallas Green during 2017 season

The Philadelphia Phillies will pay homage the former manager Dallas Green with a jersey patch during the 2017 season according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki:

Zolecki did confirm to another Twitter user that the patch, as expected, will be worn throughout the entirety of the 2017 season.

It's not immediately clear what the patch will look like. Traditionally, the Phillies have worn black patches above the "Phillies" on the left side of their jersey to honor important members of the organization who have passed away, such as Harry Kalas. Normally, like in the case of Kalas or former partner Sally Buck, the patch is normally black with white writing and will just have the initials of the person, such as "HK." It's unclear if Green's patch will just say "DG" or if it will also incorporate his No. 46 in any way.

The Phillies are honoring Green, who managed the club to the franchise's first World Series title in 1980, after he passed away at the age of 82 last Wednesday.

Since his passing, the club has honored Green by having his jersey hanging in the dugout of each of their Spring Training games. It's unclear if that will continue into the season, though from here, it would seem appropriate.

If you haven't already, Sports Talk Philly historical columnist Matt Albertson wrote a tremendous piece looking back at the life of Green in the sport of baseball that is a must-read.
