Eflin aims to keep quality-start streak alive against Cashner, Rangers

By Brandon Apter, Sports Talk Philly editor

Arlington, TX — The Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers continue their three-game series tonight at 8:05 p.m. Since being 11-9 back in late April, the Phils have lost 13 of their last 16 while Texas extended their win streak to seven games with a win on Tursday.

Game one of the series between the Phillies and Rangers didn't go well for Philadelphia. The offense struck out 11 times and could never get much going against Texas ace Yu Darvish and his nasty slider. Jerad Eickhoff bounced back from a string of poor outings, allowing two earned runs in six innings while striking out eight.

Tonight, the Phils will seek redemption as they send Zach Eflin to the mound to face Andrew Cashner. Eflin, 23, has pitched quality starts in each of his five outings in 2017 since replacing Clay Buchholz in the rotation.

  • Odubel Herrera is 6-for-11 against Rangers starter Andrew Cashner with two home runs and three RBIs in his career.
  • Texas outfielder Nomar Mazara hit a long home run last night in the first inning, and is eight for his last 18 with three doubles and a home run.
  • Mike Napoli was 3-for-3 with a home run on Tuesday, his fifth during the month of May, which ranks third in Major League Baseball.
  • Phillies pitchers have given up 59 home runs this season, second to last in the league to only the Dodgers, who have surrendered 60 long balls.
