Phillies prospect Scott Kingery powers his way to EL Player of the Week

Another week, another Phillies prospect being named Player of the Week. Reading Fightin' Phils second baseman and Phillies top prospect Scott Kingery had an outburst of power at the plate this past week, resulting in him earning Eastern League honors for games played from May 15-21.

Kingery, 23, is ranked as the 9th best prospect in the Phillies organization by Baseball America 11th by MLB.com. Drafted in the second round of the 2015 draft, Kingery hit 9-for-30 (.300) with a double, five homers, six RBIs, nine runs scored and an .833 slugging-percentage in six games this past week with Double-A Reading. He led all Eastern League hitters in home runs (5), runs scored (9) and total bases (25) during the week and tied for the lead in extra-base hits (6). He hit two home runs on both May 19 and 21 and tallied multi-hit games on three occasions. 

Overall this season, Kingery is slashing .289/.366/.651 with eight doubles, four triples, 13 homers, 27 RBIs, 40 runs scored, nine steals, 31 strikeouts and 16 walks in 37 games. He leads the entire Eastern League in runs scored (40), total bases (99) and slugging-percentage (.651) while his 13 long balls are tops in all of Minor League Baseball.

Kingery and the Reading Fightin' Phils (23-15) are a half game out in their division and begin a series with the first place team tonight in Trenton, New Jersey.
