Eagles QB Carson Wentz has eighth best odds to win NFL MVP

By Josh Liddick, Sports Talk Philly editor

In a world of uncertainties and criticisms surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles and their future, the overall feeling of Carson Wentz as the quarterback of this team has been very positive.

The league just really has a thing for Wentz in one way or another.

According to Bovada, the Eagles have themselves a QB with a pretty darn good chance at winning MVP this season.

Carson Wentz currently has a 20-to-1 chance of becoming NFL MVP this season, in fact, there are only seven other players that have shorter odds than the second year play-caller.

In descending order, Russell Wilson (16/1), Matt Ryan (16/1), Dak Prescott (12/1), Matt Stafford (10/1), Derek Carr (10/1), Tom Brady (5/1), and Aaron Rodgers (3/1) have shorter odds than Wentz. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is currently tied with Wentz at 20-to-1 odds.

Wentz started off the 2017 campaign with pretty decent numbers, throwing for 307 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. This is following a standout rookie season, where he threw a little over 3,700 yards and 16 touchdowns.

While these odds are still not anywhere in the range of the other names called before him, the fact that Wentz still has better odds than Jameis Winston (20/1), Le'Veon Bell (25/1), Cam Newton (25/1), and Antonio Brown (33/1) is astounding.

And if Carson Wentz continues to progress in the right direction for the rest of the season, and I believe that will be the case, there's no reason his odds won't continue to grow more and more as we get closer to the end of the season.

While these odds to win MVP don't prove anything, it's quite soothing to see the league acknowledge Wentz for the kind of value he has for the Eagles and as a viable quarterback in the National Football League.
