Phillies add catcher Nick Rickles as non-roster invitee to replace retiring Eric Fryer

CLEARWATER, Fla. — With minor-league catcher Eric Fryer retiring on Monday after a seven-year career, the Philadelphia Phillies announced on Tuesday they have added catcher Nick Rickles to big league camp as a non-roster invitee, according to The Morning Call's Stephen Gross.

Rickles, who turned 28 on Feb. 2, batted .258/.292/.422 spanning 137 combined plate appearances last season with Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native becomes the Phillies' fourth non-roster invitee catcher at spring training, joining Edgar CabralMatt McBride and Logan Moore. The overall spring training roster now stands at 61.

Pitchers and catchers are set to report on Wednesday.
