Phillies to honor 10th anniversary of 2008 championship team during Alumni Day

CLEARWATER, Fla. — It is hard to believe, but nearly 10 years have passed since the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in five games to capture the club's second World Series championship in franchise history.

Philadelphia recently got a taste of celebration on Broad Street again this past Thursday, as the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their first Super Bowl win after their 41-33 victory against the New England Patriots.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Phillies' win, the club announced on Tuesday that it will honor the team pregame during their annual Toyota Phillies Alumni Day on Sunday, August 5, according to The Athletic's Meghan Montemurro.

Alumni Day is the final day of Alumni Weekend, where former club Wall of Famers, Hall of Famers, and others are introduced on the field prior to the game. This happens to be the same weekend as the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement weekend, where former Eagles greats Brian Dawkins and Terrell Owens will be honored and presented with their gold jackets.

At least four members from the 2008 team will not be able to attend barring a scheduled off-day, as they remain active on a Major League roster: Chase Utley (Los Angeles Dodgers), Cole Hamels (Texas Rangers), Ryan Madson (Washington Nationals) and J.A. Happ (Toronto Blue Jays).

All fans who attend the August 5 matchup will receive a Brad Lidge Bobble Figurine.

Phillies single game tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday on phillies.com.
