Eagles, Foles restructure deal, include mutual option for 2019

Nick Foles is going to be a Philadelphia Eagle in 2018, and perhaps longer, as the Eagles have restructured the Super Bowl MVP's contract for this upcoming season.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, along with NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Foles will receive a $2 million signing bonus with extra incentives if he reaches starting quarterback benchmarks in 2018. The deal included a mutual option between the Eagles and Foles in 2019.

To add, Garafolo said the new contract for Foles "was about hooking him up after his performance in the postseason."

On top of that, Garafolo clarified that the deal is "not a reflection of the team's feeling on Carson Wentz's recovery. They (the Eagles) remain confident he's working his way back."

The Eagles obviously have a soft spot for Foles, and they should, after he was one of the main reasons the team went all the way in 2017.

It seems that the Eagles now can breathe a sigh of relief about their backup quarterback situation, especially if things fall off the tracks for Carson Wentz in his comeback from a torn ACL.

A mutual option in 2019 allows Foles to either stay an Eagle, or go elsewhere as a free agent to become a starting quarterback once again.
