The Flyers weren't the only team with playoff action on Friday night. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms began their playoff run with Game 1 in Providence against the Bruins.

Danick Martel scored two goals, while Alex Lyon backstopped the Phantoms to a 3-2 win over the Bruins in Game 1 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Providence controlled most of the opening period, taking a 12-3 advantage in shots in the first 15 minutes of the first period, but the Phantoms were able to respond to close the gap in shots to 13-10 after 20 minutes.

The teams also exchanged quick goals. Ryan Fitzgerald struck first for Providence on the power play with 2:22 remaining in the first to give the Bruins the lead. Just 16 seconds later, a harmless-looking turnaround shot from the blue line by Martel found the net to tie the game.

A poor line change by the Phantoms put Providence back in front in the second period. The Bruins got a 2-on-0 as the result of a bad change by the Phantoms and Fitzgerald was able to score his second goal of the game just 3:35 into the second.

The Phantoms tied the game on a 5-on-3 with Greg Carey wiring a one-timer from the high slot off the post and in with 5:28 left in the second. Still on the man advantage, the Phantoms took the lead on Martel's second of the game. Martel cut to the top of the face-off circle while dragging the puck and released a sick wrist shot to beat Zane McIntyre.

Alex Lyon did the rest, making 39 saves on 41 shots in the win for the Phantoms. McIntyre stopped 21 shots in the loss.

The Phantoms and Bruins meet again in Game 2 on Saturday night in Providence before the series heads home to Allentown.
