This is just Furkan Korkmaz's world and we're just all living in it. At least on Friday night.
The Philadelphia 76ers dropped their Summer League opener to the Boston Celtics, 95-89, but second-year guard Korkmaz wowed the league with his 40 points, the fifth-highest total in Summer League history.
The point total is also the third highest in Vegas Summer League history and Korkmaz's 40 is the first in a Summer League game since Anthony Morrow set the record of 47 in 2009.
Korkmaz shot 10-of-18 from the field, 8-of-14 from beyond the arc, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 28 minutes.
The Sixers starting lineup struggled shooting the ball on Friday night, as Korkmaz by far led the rest of his teammates. Sixers' first-rounder Zhaire Smith shot 3-of-7 from the field and finished with seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 29 minutes. Jonah Bolden had six points, six rebounds, and a monster block early in the first quarter. Sixers point guard Demetrius Jackson scored five points, all from the foul line, with five boards, and six assists in 23 minutes.
The Sixers' bench got a bunch of contributions, as Isaiah Miles led the second unit with 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and shot 5-of-11 from the field. The Sixers' No. 26 overall pick Landry Shamet scored six points, on 2-of-5 shooting from 3-point land in 12 minutes before exiting the game with a sprained ankle. He would not return.
As a team, the Sixers shot 36.8 percent (28-76) from the field, 35.1 percent (13-37) from beyond, and 69 percent (20-29) from the charity stripe.
The Sixers kept the score close throughout the game, before their imminent collapse late in the fourth quarter, ultimately propelling Boston to the opening victory. They only trailed the Celtics 48-45 at the end of the first half.
The Celtics had three starters that finished in double-digit scoring, as Semi Ojeleye (16), Guerschon Yabusele (16), and Jabari Bird (14) led the way for the C's in their victory.
Pierria Henry had eight points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, with a steal in 26 minutes for the Celtics.
Every player that entered the game for Boston scored at least a point, with Jarrod Uthoff and Hassan Martin each tallying eight points off the bench.
Celtics first-round pick Robert Williams didn't have the most productive night on the floor, as the center finished with just four points and a couple of boards in six minutes.
Boston shot 48.6 percent (36-74) from the field, 34.8 percent (8-23) from downtown, and 75 percent (15-20) from the foul line.
The Sixers hope they can get back on track and tally their first win of the Summer in a matchup against Michigan product Moritz Wagner and the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night at 11:30 p.m. ET.
