Eagles Sign 3 Wide Receivers, Work Out 2 More

By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Staff

It was reported on Saturday that the Eagles intended to sign Braxton Miller to their practice squad. The Eagles did just that and more today.

The Eagles added three wideouts and worked out another on Monday.

Braxton Miller was a quarterback at Ohio State before converting to wide receiver. Over his first two years in the league, Miller appeared in 21 games. He caught 34 passes for 261 yards on 57 targets.

Dorren Miller signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason as an undrafted free agent. He appeared in three preseason games making two catches for 25 yards. He racked up 868 yards in college while playing for Carson-Newman in Division II.

Davis signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He was cut and claimed by the Cleveland Browns, but in his nearly three weeks on the Browns 53-man roster, never saw a meaningful snap. After his release he signed with the Falcons practice squad and played with the team this preseason. He appeared in all four preseason games making three catches for 18 yards before being cut.

Billy Brown looked on track to make the team this season, but was not nearly as impressive in OTAs or preseason this season as he was last. He had six receptions for 38 yards, but dropped multiple passes throughout the preseason. The Eagles will let him go in the hopes of getting more depth at wide receiver for the team.

Also a surprise is that Tre Sullivan was not in a move today. It was widely speculated that after strong play in the preseason and making the 53-man roster for week one that he would be added to one of the free spots on the practice squad to provide a backup safety should the Eagles have an injury to one of the four on their active roster.

The Eagles may not be done making moves to improve the wide receiver room, as the Eagles are also connected to two former first round picks.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Eagles worked out Breshad Perriman.

Perriman was a first-round pick in the 2015 draft. He has struggled with knee and leg injuries as well as concussions. Despite missing significant time due to those injuries, he has caught 43 passes for 576 yards in his three seasons in the league.

NFL Insider Ian Rapaport is also reporting that the Eagles plan to work out Corey Coleman tomorrow.

Coleman was a first round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 draft. He made 56 catches for 718 yards with the team as they struggled to find a quarterback and won only one game over his two seasons with the team. He spent this preseason with the Bills making only three receptions for seve yards across the final three games.

Should the Eagles choose to sign Perriman or Coleman, expect that the newly signed Dorren Miller or Reggie Davis are waived to make room as the Eagles do not want to risk using half of their practice squad on one position.
