Following their fourth preseason game on Wednesday night, the Flyers made significant cuts to the training camp roster at the halfway point of the preseason.

In total, 11 players were cut from the training camp roster, bringing the roster to 41. The roster needs to be set at 23 players by Oct. 2. As of Wednesday night, there were 30 forwards, 16 defensemen and five goalies on the roster. The Flyers have an off day from on-ice activity on Thursday.

All players cut from the training camp roster were assigned to minor-league camp. The list of players cut is as follows:

  • RW Colin McDonald

  • RW David Kase

  • D Zach Palmquist

  • D Reece Willcox

  • C German Rubtsov

  • D David Drake

  • D Frank Hora

  • C Mike Vecchione

  • D James de Haas

  • C Connor Bunnaman

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms open their training camp over the weekend following an NHL preseason game at PPL Center between the Flyers and Islanders on Friday night.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Flyers signed defenseman Yegor Zamula to an entry-level deal and reassigned him to his junior team.

Aside from the obvious players still left on the NHL roster, a few notable prospects in the hunt for a roster spot remain.

Forwards Mikhail Vorobyev, Corban Knight, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Carsen Twarynski survived the most recent round of cuts. Defenseman Phil Myers also remains on the NHL roster past the halfway point of the preseason. All five goalies, including Anthony Stolarz and Carter Hart are part of the NHL roster still as well, though Alex Lyon’s preseason is over after he suffered a lower-body injury that will keep him out for four weeks.

The Flyers continue the preseason on Friday night against the Islanders at PPL Center in Allentown. Game time is at 7 p.m.
