Phillies OF Jose Bautista ‘Definitely Wants to Play’ in 2019

Despite having posted his worst batting average since 2005 with three different National League East clubs this season, outfielder Jose Bautista "definitely wants to play" in 2019 with a contending club, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

"Bautista can still get on base. His .338 on-base percentage is 20 points higher than the league average, and he still flashes occasional power," Rosenthal said. "Mets manager Mickey Callaway praised him for his ability to play solid defense at multiple positions."

Since joining the Phillies in late August, Bautista has collected just three singles, five extra-base hits, five RBI, six walks and 12 strikeouts over 21 games and 44 plate appearances. The 15-year veteran has committed zero errors in the field, spanning 68 innings and 14 chances in right field, and four innings and one chance at third base.

The Phillies, per Rosenthal, "love" the way Bautista mentors their younger players. Re-signing the six-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger Award winner seems unlikely, however.
