Eagles Re-Sign Bruce Hector to Practice Squad

By Paul Bowman, Eagledelphia Managing Editor

Defensive tackle Bruce Hector has cleared waivers and has been resigned to fill the vacant spot on the practice squad.

The Eagles like Hector and think he will be a valuable contributor. The key word, however, is will. Hector has appeared in only 20 snaps this season since making the 53-man roster.

The undrafted free agent has potential, but will need time with the team to unlock the potential. A team that is as high on rotating defensive lineman as the Eagles would prefer to have an impact player on the roster, especially when they already have a developmental project in Jordan Mailata occupying a spot on the roster. Mailata would not clear waivers, so Hector was the obvious move.

He essentially switches places with fellow defensive tackle Treyvon Hester who was signed off the practice squad. Hester appeared in 14 games last season after being selected in the seventh round by the Oakland Raiders. He made 19 tackles and forced a fumble with the team last season before being cut at the end of the preseason this year.

Jim Schwartz may feel more comfortable putting Hester into the game allowing Fletcher Cox to see more rest time while Tim Jernigan remains out. At the same time, Hector is able to remain with the team and continue to develop into the player the Eagles think he can be.
