Scott Boras: Bryce Harper Has New Contract ‘Already Completed, Done’

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Lost in the news before the fourth game of the Fall Classic between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday evening was agent Scott Boras, and his upcoming free agent superstar client, Bryce Harper.

While calling into 98.7 FM's The Michael Kay Show in New York, Boras had high praise for Harper, saying that among all players he has represented in his entire career, he has the "greatest skill level" and the "greatest character level."

Harper, 26, has logged 183 doubles, 184 home runs and 521 RBI spanning seven seasons with the Washington Nationals since 2012. The six-time All-Star, 2012 National League Rookie of the Year, and 2015 National League Most Valuable Player and Silver Slugger Award winner poises to get awarded one of the largest contracts in league history this offseason.

As of October 4, Bovada places the Chicago Cubs, Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and Nationals as the top-five most likely destinations for the Las Vegas native, in that order. Per Boras, he and Harper already know who the team is.

"It's already completed and done," Boras said. "But Bryce has told me he wanted to tell you personally, so I'm going to let him do that."

Update, 10/28: Boras was "kidding" in his interview, according to the Washington Post's Chelsea Janes.

With the free agency period not yet commenced, this is surely tampering, regardless whether Boras was kidding or not. But, if anything, Boras' transparent comments could be hinting that Harper will remain in the nation's capital.
