Game Recap: That Was Embarrassing

By Matthew Kaplan

If for some reason you could not watch or chose not to watch the Eagles game today, you were very lucky. In “America’s Game of the Week” on Fox the Eagles took on the Saints in New Orleans and to call the game a blow out in the Saints favor is being much too nice to the Eagles. The Saints, behind Drew Brees, would convincingly win the game, 48-7.

Brees would destroy an already severely wounded Eagles secondary, completing 22 of his 30 passes for 363 yards and four touchdowns. He would also find a lot of help from his running backs who generated 211 total yards and three touchdowns. All together, the Saints would dominate the game holding the ball for 57% of the game and not allowing the Eagles to get any kind of impact going on the offensive end.

The Eagles, on the other hand, would only manage 196 total yards, have three turnovers and only manage 13 first downs all game. Due to injuries, they lack the weapons to win football games, without names like Jalen Mills, Ronald Darby, Darren Sproles and Jay Ajayi among others. The list seems to go on forever. Then when you compound injuries with a slow start, allowing the Saints to go up 10-0 after the first quarter, it will only get worse.

In spite of all of this and in light of the Alex Smith injury for the Redskins combined with the lack of quality around the division, the Eagles, at four wins and six losses, with four divisional games yet to play, still have a chance. They will go home and prepare for a very important Giants game on Sunday afternoon.
