During Doug Pederson’s press conference on Wednesday, the recent addition of Rodgers being designated for return over Mack Hollins and Mike Wallace, Pederson did not have good news to share.
“Perk has a knee injury and is going to miss substantial time.”
Perkins looked ready to break out after a week two where he made four receptions for 57 yards on 33% of snaps, but caught just one pass for 10 yards in 38% of snaps the following week. Since that, he has appeared in only 8.5% of offensive snaps. In an article yesterday, I speculated that Perkins should be worried about the Eagles designating Rodgers for return and adding a new tight end to the practice squad. Apparently, it is the Eagles who should be worried.
At this point in the season, Pederson saying Perkins will miss “significant” time is worrisome as there are only seven games remaining in the regular season. With Perkins unable to play and both Tim Jernigan and Richard Rodgers expected back, Perkins will likely join the IR, making their current IR roster 10 players, not including Destiny Vaeao, who was waived with an injury settlement.
The Eagles may soon get a few defensive players back from injury in addition to Rodgers, so not all the news on the injury front is bad for the birds.
