NFC East Review Week 9

By Matthew Kaplan

With the Eagles in the middle of a bye week, this week was spent rooting against two divisional foes, hoping that the Falcons and the Titans would give us a little bit of help. With some luck and a lot of help from Matt Ryan, the assistance we needed was provided.

To kick off a long day of football, Matt Ryan led the Falcons into Washington to take on the NFC East leading Redskins. The Skins’ would come in to this game off a victory over the Giants and a game and a half lead on the Eagles for the top spot in the NFC East. Thankfully, the Falcons would start off quick and take an early 14-o lead. The Falcons wouldn’t look back and win this game easily, 38-14. They would be led by Matt Ryan, who threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns. Ryan’s main target, as always, was Julio Jones. Jones caught seven balls for 121 yards and would even find the end-zone for his first touchdown of the season.

The only bright spot for the Redskins was Maurice Harris. Harris, the three-year pro out of California would lead the way with 10 catches and 124 yards. The Redskins will be hoping that he can carry that success in to next week as they go in to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. The Bucs’ are no longer on a hot streak as they are one and five since their miracle two and zero start.

Help would continue to come the Eagles way on Monday night as the Cowboys would welcome the Titans in to Dallas. The Titans would win this game 28 to 14 behind a strong performance from Marcus Mariota. Mariota, usually a very streaky quarter-back, would be efficient and on target during this game as he completed 21 of 29 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns plus another touchdown on the ground.

The Cowboys will now find themselves in a must win situation coming in to Philadelphia next Sunday night. They also find themselves in some turmoil after some strange decision making both on the coaching and the management level. These decisions include the acquisition of Amari Cooper, as a lot of fans and writers around the NFL,  feel they gave up too much for a receiver who has not played up to expectations in a couple of years. People like Troy Aikman, Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback, are even calling for a full rebuild. This coming week’s outcome could decide a lot about the future of the Cowboys.
