Doug Pederson met with the media Tuesday and provided an update on each of the injured Eagles and their original statuses for the Dallas Cowboys game.
Tim Jernigan
Jernigan suffered from back spasms in the Redskins game and was removed as a precaution. He is expected to play against the Cowboys.
Jason Peters
Peters got rolled up on at the end of the game against Washington. The injury is not expected to be serious. He may get additional rest during practice this week, but should be able to play against the Cowboys. He has been playing far better as of late than he had been earlier in the season.
Avonte Maddox
Maddox was said to be close and “day-to-day”. He is the most likely of the three guys who missed the Redskins game to play against the Cowboys. Maddox will be able to provide some versatility for the defense should he be available.
Jalen Mills
Pederson said Mills was “probably a little further away”, but is day-to-day. Mills is easily the best corner on the Eagles roster right now and his being the farthest out is a bit of a concern with the tough schedule the Eagles have upcoming. Doug did leave it open that Mills could play against Dallas, however that seems unlikely. Without Mills, Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas will need to keep Amari Cooper contained.
Jordan Hicks
Hicks, surprisingly, was close according to Doug Pederson. That is very good news for the defense. If Hicks can play, he may be the key to winning the Cowboys game. He was thought to be the furthest out last week, but he may be able to get on the field this week. With the Eagles finally getting pressure from the defensive line, Hicks will be put in a position where he can get turnovers rather than needing to make the tackle on every other play. Hicks made so many tackles early in the season, that he remains 19 ahead of both Malcolm Jenkins and Nigel Bradham for the team lead.
While not everyone may return, the Eagles do still have a chance at all five returning and have a very good chance of getting at least three of them back when they visit Dallas.
