Following the re-signing of Ronald Darby, there were many, including myself, that the Eagles would not be making another major move.

Instead, the Eagles added once more to a stacked defensive backs room the depth of which Eagles fans haven’t seen in a long time.

On Monday, the Eagles agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran safety Andrew Sendejo.

Sendejo has appeared in 95 games over his career, registering 421 tackles , 27 pass breakups and six interceptions. He was a major part of the Minnesota Vikings elite defense in 2017, but has struggled to stay on the field for extended periods of time due to injuries. Last season, he appeared in only five games before landing on IR.

The move seems to be a wise one, grabbing a low-risk, high-reward veteran safety in a market that was absolutely flooded with top-tier safeties.

Sendejo figures to be the third safety on the roster, a position that often sees the field in place of a third linebacker. His presence will likely allow Malcolm Jenkins to play up on the line.

The Eagles now have a defensive back room consisting of:

  • Malcolm Jenkins
  • Rodney McLeod
  • Andrew Sendejo
  • Tre Sullivan (Who developed rapidly at the end of 2018 and was a major reason for the Eagles’ success late in the season)
  • Deiondre’ Hall (Who the Eagles traded for last season)
  • Ronald Darby
  • Jalen Mills
  • Rasul Douglas
  • Sidney Jones
  • Avonte Maddox
  • Cre’Von LeBlanc
  • You could make an argument that 10 of those 11 players should be starters and the draft hasn’t even happened yet. The Eagles could still add talent at either position.

In the case that they do and the team doesn’t think they can get anyone to the practice squad successfully, trades are always and option, especially with Howie Roseman.

The Eagles lose Sendejo, McLeod, Darby and Mills at the end of the season, so they would likely be the players the Eagles would prefer to move, but any of the group is likely available for good offers.
