On Sunday night, Chris Long ended his NFL playing career.

Despite the signs all pointing toward this scenario, the move was somewhat of a surprise to people and it is certainly disappointing to hear that the Walter Payton Man of the Year will not take the field in 2019.

Still, his retirement gave the front office a bit of business to do.

Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles have filled the vacated roster spot by signing offensive tackle Casey Tucker.

Tucker was in rookie camp with the team and made enough of an impression that the team decided to bring him in with the absence of Jason Peters and Lane Johnson at practice.

Tucker has a slim chance at the roster thanks to his having some experience playing guard, but the far more likely scenario is that he does not find himself with the team following OTA’s. It is hard to imagine him jumping all three of Ryan Bates, Johnny Gibson Jr. and Sua Operta on the team’s priority list.

Tucker started 22 games in his career at Standford (appeared in 27) prior to his transfer to Arizona State. He graduated with a Philosophy degree from Stanford.
