Flyers Re-Sign D Travis Sanheim to 2-Year Deal

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

The Flyers have already made a lot of changes to the roster this offseason through trades and the signing of free-agent Kevin Hayes after acquiring his rights. They still had six restricted free agents to sign as the week leading to free agency began.

The first of those players has signed. Defenseman Travis Sanheim has re-signed with the Flyers on a two-year deal worth $6.5 million, an average annual value of $3.25 million.

Sanheim was the Flyers first-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft with the 17th overall pick. He scored two goals and had 10 points in 49 games as a rookie in the 2017-18 season. Last season, he scored nine goals and had 35 points in 82 games, finishing second in scoring among defensemen.

The 23-year-old defenseman's new contract will last through the 2020-21 season.

The Flyers still have to sign remaining restricted free agents Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Ryan HartmanScott Laughton and Justin Bailey while trying to add a third-line winger and a backup goalie. With Sanheim's deal, the Flyers have approximately $18.1 million of cap space remaining.
