Eagles 2025 Schedule Analysis and Notes
The Eagles officially have their full schedule released.
It gives the team a roadmap for which teams and when they’ll have to go through and when in order to look to repeat as champions.
So what sticks out about the schedule?
No Back-To-Back Home Games
For the first time in history, the defending Super Bowl Champions will have no back-to-back home games during the season.
The flip side to that, however, is that there are no extended road trips. The Birds draw back-to-back road games just twice this season: weeks 6 and 7 (Thursday @ NYG followed by Sunday @ MIN) then at the end of the season with weeks 16 and 17 (Saturday @ WAS, then Sunday @ BUF). Both instances have more than a week between the two away games and the only team they visit beyond DC or New York is Minnesota, which also isn’t all too far.
A Balanced Bye Week
For a bit of a change, the Eagles have their bye week to rest up about as center in their schedule as they possibly can, with eight games before it and nine after.
From a potential injury perspective, this could be good as it gives the team a rest at the halfway point so they are less likely to overextend themselves in a long stretch with no breaks. If you prefer the negative side, the Eagles used the bye week very early last year to turn the team around – if that’s needed again this season, it’ll have to wait far longer and the Birds will be treading water far longer.
Short Week “Cupcakes”
The Eagles draw a short week five times this season with a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday game along with two weeks following their playing a Monday night.
There are exceptions, of course (playing Detroit after a MNF football game and Washington on a Sunday), but the good news there is that the Commanders are playing on the same shortened schedule as the Eagles.
Otherwise, you probably couldn’t have done a much better job of picking the Eagles opponents this season you’d want to face on a short week – the Eagles draw their other short week games against the Bear, Giants, and Raiders. Limiting to just the Eagles opponents next season, the only two teams with projected win totals below any of those three teams are the Cowboys and Vikings – and it may be safe to assume fans are more comfortable on a short week against the Bears than either of those teams.
Of course, that’s not to say these teams shouldn’t be overlooked, it’s just hard to imagine that you’d find fans that’d prefer short weeks against different teams on the Eagles schedule instead.
Extra Rest For Contenders
On the flip side, the Eagles will get more than a week of prep five times. These games will come against the Chargers, Bills, Chiefs, Packers, and Vikings. Every one of those teams was a playoff team last season and the first three listed are in the AFC’s top five teams for projected win totals.
Just One Team Off A Bye, Two On Extra/Short Rest
As far as other teams and their rest before they face the Eagles, the Birds draw just one team coming off their bye this season: the Minnesota Vikings in week seven.
Otherwise, the Birds draw two teams with a bit of extra rest before their match-up. They are the Chiefs in week two, who will be coming off a Friday night game (but the Eagles coming off Thursday get an extra day overall) and then the Commander in the week 18 finale would be coming off a Thursday night game. Ideally that second game is a non-factor and a rest day for the Birds, but it could be extra rest for an opponent in a key game.
The Eagles also draw two teams coming in on short weeks following their being on Monday night match-ups the week before. Those two teams will be the Broncos in week five and Cowboys in week 12 (an away game). The Broncos game, at least, is early enough in the season that it’s unlikely the NFL looks to flex that to change it.
NFC East Series
Unlike the majority of past seasons, the Eagles do not end their season in a stretch of four or five game against NFC East opponents with just one or two games between them. This year, the seasons series are largely compacted, with only the two Cowboys games having spacing between them.
The Eagles will get both games against the Giants out of the way early this year, with week 6 and 8 before the bye likely to be the only two games between the teams this season.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will hope to lock up a playoff spot before they even face the Commanders this year as they don’t play the franchise with an owner who should be booed every time anyone in Philadelphia sees him until week 16. The last three weeks of the regular season will house both of the Commanders games, including a potentially meaningless game for the two teams in the final game of the seasons. With Washington and Philadelphia expected among the NFC’s top teams next year, it could also mean the two teams play three times in a four or five week period.
Another September Game In Tampa Bay
This one just seems ridiculous, like it’s being done intentionally at this point. The Bucs have played in Philadelphia once since the 2015 season and this would now mark the Eagles having played Tampa Bay in Florida five times in a row.
It’s also the third straight season in which the NFL has sent the Eagles down to Tampa Bay in September when it’s still hot and humid. The Eagles have had some of the worst performances they’ve been able to put together over the past several seasons in Tampa, so this is not a pleasant game to have early on in the season as the team hopes to build a lead in the standings.
