Meredith Gaudreau, the widow of National Hockey League star Johnny Gaudreau, announced the birth of the couple’s third child. Carter Michael Gaudreau was born on April 1, nearly a year after the tragic death of Johnny and his brother Matthew on a rural South Jersey roadway.

In addition to taking his father’s middle name, the youngest Gaudreau was the same birth weight and height as Johnny Hockey.

In town for their sister’s wedding, the Gaudreau brothers were fatally struck on Salem County Route 551 last August by an alleged drunk driver. Sean Higgins, 44-years-old of nearby Pilesgrove, allegedly attempted to aggressively pass a slow-moving vehicle on the two-lane road. When he was unable to do so due to oncoming traffic, he veered onto the shoulder and fatally struck the Gaudreau brothers. He has been held in Salem County jail since the incident and is currently awaiting trial.

Unbeknownst at the time of the accident, both Meredith and Madeline Gaudreau, the wife of Matthew, were expecting.

Madeline Gaudreau welcomed a baby boy, Tripp Matthew Gaudreau, in December.

Congratulations to the Gaudreau family on their newest addition.Â
