The Philadelphia 76ers are converting Justin Edwards’ two-way contract to a standard deal. Edwards’ new contract comes with a team option for the 2025-26 season. Keith Pompey of The Inquirer was first to report the move.

Edwards was originally signed to a two-way contract by the Sixers after he went undrafted in this past year’s NBA draft. He was given a chance to crack the rotation due to the myriad of injuries throughout the Sixers’ roster. The Philadelphia native has impressed, averaging 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 22 games this season. The 21-year old is also shooting 37.5% from 3-point range on 4.0 attempts per game. His play this season has earned him the trust of head coach Nick Nurse, who has rewarded Edwards by putting him into the starting lineup in recent weeks.

While Edwards’ contract comes with a team option for the 2025-26 season, the Sixers reportedly want to keep him around long term. According to Pompey, the Sixers “are interested in exploring a longer-term deal [with Edwards] in the offseason.” Assuming Edwards continues to play well, the Sixers appear likely to decline his team option this offseason and ink him to a longer-term contract.

Edwards has been one of the team’s few brights spots amid a disappointing season. His combination of good outside shooting, strong defense and composure in big moments should make him a mainstay of the rotation for years to come.
