From a Game 1 comeback win to a wide-open and rowdy final five games that featured tons of scoring and plenty of animosity, the Flyers 2012 series against the Pittsburgh Penguins defined the rivalry perfectly. They were set to face off against the New York Rangers in the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In his first season behind the bench was now Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault.
