Alaska sports betting can be summed up simply and concisely – nonexistent, at least not through state-regulated sportsbooks. The gambling regulations in the Land of the Midnight Sun are among the most restrictive in the US, so much so that even horse racing, allowed in many other states where sports betting is illegal, remains prohibited.
Offshore betting sites provide a legal loophole Alaskans can explore. Our gambling experts at SportsTalkPhilly, following extensive research, review, and first-hand testing, have compiled a list of the top 10 Alaska sports betting sites. These sites are fully licensed and offer a safe way for locals to enjoy sports betting even if the state has yet to open its doors to the industry.

The Best Alaska Sports Betting Sites 2024 Reviewed
Alaska’s current legal framework makes it a challenging environment for sports betting. Offshore sportsbooks are, however, there to make betting easier for locals. Bettors face another problem with this option, however – where do we place our bets?
Our experts have added reviews of the top 5 AK sportsbooks below to help you make this decision. See what’s available at each and which platform best suits your playstyle and preferences.
1. BetOnline – No.1 Overall Alaska Sportsbook
BetOnline ranks highest on our list for its competitive betting odds, bonus and promotions offerings, comprehensive lineup of free-entry contests, many betting options, early betting lines, and fast payouts. This Alaska sports betting site, established over 30 years ago, operates under a Panama license and offers betting lines on 25 sports, including Alaskan favorites the MLB, NBA, NCAAB, and NHL.
Seattle Seahawks fans will love it here, as the sharp sportsbook offers early betting lines on their season games and major events like the Super Bowl. For example, expect to see outright betting lines on the Super Bowl, scheduled for February 2025, at least a year before the event. There’s a wide variety of bet types, too – moneyline, point spreads, over/under (Totals), prop bets, parlays, if bets, and teasers.
Alongside the swathe of bonuses available using BetOnline promo codes, the site also has a rich lineup of free-entry contests (Survivor, Score Predictors, Mega Contests, March Madness, ESL Prop League Contests, UFC Prop Challenge), live betting with live streaming of select games, a dedicated racebook, odds boosts, and a VIP Reward program for return players. There is everything to play for on BetOnline.
- Free-entry contests
- Live streaming
- Early betting lines on futures markets
- Odds boosts
- Dedicated racebook
- No e-wallet payment options available
2. Bovada – Craft Custom Wagers on the Portland Trail Blazers and OKC Games
Bovada is packed with a punch and is an ideal spot for AK bettors who appreciate a little creativity in their wagers. Registered players can create custom wagers on any of Bovada’s 25+ markets by placing a special request in the sports bet request thread in the Dominic_Bovada community or using #WhatsYaWager on X.com. Approved wagers are shown in the website’s ‘Specials – Next Events‘ section.
On Bovada, you are never short of betting options for the Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder, two of the state’s favorite teams. We found up to 64 bets, including bets on player points, player rebounds, assists, and three-pointers. Player combos, first-basket props, specials, and betting squares are further options. You are also spoilt with just as many choices when placing bets on the WNBA.
Bonus hunters can find two welcome promos to gun down – one for fiat and another for crypto deposits. Crypto users enjoy an additional $750 deposit match to aid their bankroll using the October Bovada bonus code.
- New parlay booster promotion
- 50+ bet options on each Blazers and OKC game
- Request custom bets using #WhatsYaWager on X.com
- Crypto-exclusive welcome promo
- Live betting and live esports streaming
- Fiat welcome offer is below the industry standard
3. MyBookie – Top Alaska Sports Betting Site for Parlays
MyBookie is a widely recognized name in the betting industry. The Curacao-licensed sportsbook, now in its tenth year, has lines up for 30+ sports and is another AK sports betting site worth checking out. There isn’t much to say about the website’s UI, which we thought was outdated, but there is everything to say about its offers for Seattle Mariners and MLB betting in general.
With its prop builder and same-game parlay feature, you can create multiple picks from a single game. Some popular wagers you can expect include alternate lines (handicap, total, innings), When will the 1st run be scored, Race to 3 runs, 1st to score, Total bases, Total batter runs, Total pitcher strikeouts, and Winning margin. In a Mariners vs St.Louis Cardinals game, we found up to 122 wagers, which is a lot by any standard and perfect for SGPs.
In addition, betting pros update the MyBookie blog pages daily, providing a stream of betting news and predictions to help players find an angle. Several promos, including a 100% sports welcome bonus, horse racing rebates, and regular reload bonuses, can be claimed as long as you have the correct MyBookie bonus codes to hand.
- 100+ prop bet options on the Seattle Mariners
- Offers live streaming on select MLB games
- Competitive MLB betting odds
- 30+ number of sports markets
- Decent welcome bonus
- No MLB specials or contests
- Live betting interface is in need of an update
4. BetUS – Biggest Welcome Bonus Offer
BetUS is a top Alaska sports betting site for several different reasons. For some, it’s The Locker Room and BetUS-TV, where experts extensively discuss their week’s predictions and betting tips. Others enjoy the lineup of contests, including exclusive options like Survivor Pools, Betting Squares, Lottery Login, and free contests like Schools Out, Home Plate, etc.
Other players enjoy the instant access to over 20 sports markets with competitively priced odds. These include all the US favorites: NBA, NFL, etc., a solid lineup of international sports, like rugby and cricket betting, and even novelty markets, like entertainment and political betting. For us, however, it was the welcome bonus that stood out.
This Mwali-licensed bookmaker also has one of the juiciest welcome offers in the industry – a 125% match of a user’s first three deposits up to $2,000 (+$625 for the casino). While many sportsbooks only match your first deposit, BetUS matches your first three. You may also qualify for a 300% referral bonus of up to $6,000 when a friend registers through your refer link. Just input BetUS promo codes when making deposits to claim these rewards.
- Exclusive and unique free-to-enter NBA, NFL challenges
- Welcome bonus of 125% up to $2,625
- 300% up to $6,000 referral bonus
- Free picks and tips on BetUS-TV
- Regular betting news updates in The Locker Room
- 14x rollover requirement for the welcome offer
5. Sportsbetting.ag – Early Bet Lines On the Washington Huskies and Oregon Ducks
Sportsbetting.ag, a sister site to BetOnline, is a further pick if you’re looking for an AK sports betting site. The Panama-licensed platform has extensive coverage of 25+ different sports, and the coverage and line selection are stacked across all markets. However, we will focus on its offers for NCAAB fans.
A sharp sportsbook, Sportsbetting.ag is known for being one of the first to release betting lines on the Washington Huskies, Oregon Ducks, and other NCAAF games/teams. Capitalize on these early odds before they are potentially adjusted! Regarding markets, find various options, including moneylines, totals, point spreads, and team player props. You will also find outright odds on the National Championship Winner, Teams to Make the Playoffs, etc.
Live betting is a further perk of Sportsbetting.ag. Hosted under a separate tab, players can access dozens of in-play sports, with a wide range of betting options, on-site statistical data, and select live streaming for regular and esports. Lucrative contests, including NFL Survivor, are also listed, alongside a vast selection of 20+ sports promotions you can claim just by inputting Sportsbetting.ag promo codes and an excellent VIP program.
- Early bet lines on the Huskies, Ducks, and Broncos
- Wide variety of betting markets
- Live betting/streaming available
- Multiple free-entry contests
- Superb VIP program
- Hard to locate the proposition wagers

How We Select the Best Alaska Betting Sites
Our list of the best Alaska sports betting sites wasn’t random. It results from careful analysis and ranking dozens of betting platforms based on criteria. They are:
Are There Any Legal Alaska Sportsbooks?
Sports betting is not legal in Alaska, so the state does not operate or regulate the activities of any sportsbook. The closest state to the Land of Midnight Sun with legal sports betting is Washington, up to 2,500 miles away by road, roughly the same distance between New York City, New York, and Miami, Florida. Traveling this long distance to place bets is less attractive for many locals than wagering on offshore websites.
Offshore sports betting websites licensed and regulated by reputable foreign gaming boards and commissions are safe to play at. Those on our featured list, mostly regulated by the gaming boards/commissions of Malta, Curacao, Mwali, Anjouan, and Panama, adhere to strict operational codes designed to promote fair play, protect players’ privacy, and enforce responsible gambling measures. They have also been operational for many years and are thus reliable.
Who Can Enjoy Sports Betting in AK?
The Supreme Court’s repeal of the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) gave each state the autonomy to establish its own regulatory sports betting framework. More than 30 states have built upon this ruling, legalizing sports betting to different degrees. The journey has been slow in states like Alaska. Pro-sports betting bills have been introduced and discussed, but the legislature has yet to approve any.
One such bill, H.B. 385, introduced by Rep. Adam Wool in 2022, recommended a legal sports betting age of 21 years or older. If approved, only locals who are 21 years or older will be allowed to wager on sports in the Last Frontier state.
Is DFS Legal in Alaska?
Alaska, though generally anti-gambling, has no specific legislation against daily fantasy sports (DFS).
A probable reason is the vocabulary in the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which specifically exempts fantasy sports from its definition of internet gambling. It describes DFS as a game of skill rather than chance, which most states are specifically against.
This definition has been challenged in some states, including New York, where the Court of Appeals ruled 4-3 in favor of determining DFS as a game of skill. Other states where DFS has been challenged include Illinois, Nevada, Alabama, Hawaii, and Texas.
Unlike these states, there has been no official challenge from Alaska authorities on DFS. Since Alaskan laws allow for activities requiring more skill than chance, Alaskans are allowed to participate in DFS contests, available on platforms like:
- FanDuel
- DraftKings
- Betr Picks
- Sleeper
- Fliff
- PrizePicks
- Underdog
Latest News on Alaska Sports Betting Legislation
The evolution of sports betting in the United States has had a slow ripple effect in Alaska, where the gambling laws are still very restrictive. Here’s a timeline of significant legislative developments nationwide and how they have also shaped sports betting legislation in Alaska.
- 22 February 2022—Rep. Adam Wool introduced HB 385, a bill to legalize mobile sports betting in the state. The proposal recommends a minimum betting age of 21 and makes provisions for up to 10 mobile sportsbook licenses. However, the bill faced much opposition and was not approved by the committee.
- 12 February 2020—Governor Mike Dunleavy introduced the Alaska Lottery Corporation Act, HB 246, which aims to establish an Alaska state lottery as a new revenue source for the state.
- 14 May 2018—The Supreme Court’s ruling in the Murphy vs. NCAA case established the state-level autonomy of betting site legality, free from the interference of the federal government.
- 11 November 2018—The United States Supreme Court strikes down PASPA, giving each state the authority to legalize sports betting within its borders.
- 12 May 2008—A second referendum to legalize gambling in the state was held. Significantly more voters opposed it than supported it.
- 01 January 2006—DFS became legal in the state because of verbiage in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which defined it as a game of skill rather than chance.
AK Sports Betting Taxation Laws
Alaskans are not required to pay state taxes on sports betting winnings, primarily because sports betting isn’t legal in the state. If sports betting were legalized in Alaska, no state tax would likely be imposed on the winnings.
However, state residents would still be subject to a federal tax of 24% on all winnings over $600. Section 6041 of the IRC obligates all sportsbooks to report to the Internal Revenue for winnings over $600 or at least 300 times the wager amount. Gambling profits are reported for tax purposes through the W-2G form.
In many other states where sports betting is legal, residents must pay federal and state taxes on their winnings. The state taxes vary between 0% in states like Florida and Texas and up to 14.25% in Kentucky (in-person sports gambling). Compared to other states, Alaska bettors would benefit from the absence of state taxes, but the federal tax obligations remain.
The story is a little different from that of offshore sports betting websites. These sites do not report winnings to U.S. authorities since they operate outside the U.S. government’s jurisdiction and thus aren’t subject to the same regulations as US-based sportsbooks. However, for tax purposes, bettors are advised to report their gambling winnings like they would with US-based sportsbooks, especially if withdrawn to their regular bank accounts.

Alaska Betting Apps & Mobile Wagering
The US sports betting industry generated a staggering $11.04 billion in revenue in 2023, a 46% increase from the previous year. A significant part of this growth can be attributed to the rise in mobile betting. For many, smartphones have become the primary device for placing wagers, with mobile betting apps available on Android and iPhone, giving them access to betting markets on the go.
Although none of our recommended sportsbooks offer a downloadable AK sports betting app, they all feature mobile-optimized websites with fast loading times and a user-friendly interface. With these sites, bettors can wager on their favorite teams and monitor their bets on the go. Platforms such as BetOnline and BetNow also provide downloadable poker apps if you are inclined.

The Best Alaska Sports Betting Site in 2024
Alaskans do not have access to state-regulated sports betting apps, but they do have options. Offshore sportsbooks are a go-to option for residents looking to place bets on local and international sports. However, bettors must be mindful of where to place bets, as many brands do not pay out or provide legal resources for users when issues arise.
With that in mind, BetOnline is a stand-out option for Alaskans. The Panama-licensed betting site has been operational for over two decades, highlighting its reliability. It offers impressive features, including early betting lines, same-game parlays, live streaming, and multiple sport-specific contests.
