Wayne Simmonds has been announced as one of the nominees for the NHL Foundation Player Award — directly rewarding players who make significant contributions off the ice.

Nick Pivetta will come up from the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, and will make his MLB debut.

As the Flyers enter the offseason with a number of questions, specifically regarding coaching, they answered on Thursday by relieving longtime assistant coach Joe Mullen of his duties.
