Phillies pitching haunted by homers again in loss to D’Backs

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies pitching has struggled for the better part of the last month. Today's 4-1 loss was no different. Though Phillies pitchers only allowed four runs, they gave up three home runs, and even managed to set a franchise record. The Phillies have suffered twenty home runs in the last five game. The previous record for most home runs in a five game span was nineteen set in September 1999.
With the loss, the Phillies have now lost five straight, and nine of the last ten. The Phillies fall to 4-13 in June.
Game three of this four game series will take place Sunday with the first pitch slated for 1:35pm. Archie Bradley is expected to start against Zach Eflin.

The Phillies jumped out to an early lead when Odubel Herrera hit his seventh home run of 2016 in the first inning. Herrera hit only eight home runs in his rookie campaign last year in 147 games.
Jerad Eickhoff coasted through the first four innings allowing four hits, but no runs, and striking out five. However, he hit a rough spot in the fifth inning when Arizona tagged him for three earned runs as both Nick Ahmed and Paul Goldschmidt homered to left.
The Diamondbacks chased Eickhoff in the sixth after loading the bases with two outs. Wellington Castillo singled to lead off the inning, Yasmany Tomas hit into a fielders choice, later in the inning Ahmed singled, advancing Tomas to second. Eickhoff then walked Jean Segura before Phillies manager Pete Mackanin brought Andrew Bailey on to retire the side.
Severino Gonzalez, just called up to replace Colton Murray, pitched the seventh inning for the Phillies, but quickly allowed Jake Lamb to hit his 13th home run of the season, making the game 4-1.
The Phillies actually managed to put two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, and, with one out Maikel Franco had a 3-0 count, before striking out. Carlos Ruiz followed Franco by lining out to centerfield to end the threat.
Zack Greinke pitched a masterful eight innings, allowing only three hits and one run, and managed to only throw 89 pitches before Brad Ziegler finished the Phillies off in the ninth.
