The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that sixth round draft pick JaCorey Shepherd has a torn acl and is out for the year.
Shepherd, drafted out of the University of Kansas, had a strong spring and was impressing coaches during training camp. His strong play reportedly played a part in the Eagles decision to trade Brandon Boykin to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional fifth round pick.
After the trade, Shepherd became the favorite to replace recently traded Boykin in the nickle, taking almost all of the first team snaps at nickle in the practices that followed.
However, Shepherd injured his leg during the Eagles practice at the Lincoln Financial Field over the weekend. He was covering Darren Sproles in a drill when the two players collided: "I kind of braced myself and I heard him holler and I don't know what happened," Sproles said. "I don't know."
With the injury to Shepherd, the Eagles secondary depth is going to be severely tested.
