Just one day after the NL East leading Nationals added Jonathan Papelbon to their bullpen, the Mets added a bat to their lineup. New York entered Wednesday's action just one game behind Washington for the NL East lead.

Carlos Gomez, 29, is signed through 2016 and is most well known for his aggressive style at the plate and his hot-head demeanor on the field. He's hitting .266 this season with 20 doubles, 42 runs scored, eight homers and 43 RBI's.

The Mets send 25-year-old right-hander Zach Wheeler and infielder Wilmer Flores to Milwaukee in the deal. Wheeler, 25, is 11-11 this season for New York with a 3.54 ERA. Flores, 23, is hitting .249 in 92 games for the Mets. Both Wheeler and Flores' contracts are up at the end of the season.
