Report: Phillies will not make trades until new Andy MacPhail is hired

The Phillies have not made any trades yet.  Of course, few teams have.  Aside from the trade of Mark Trumbo from the Diamondbacks to the Mariners and the trade of Touki Toussant from the Diamondbacks to the Braves, the trade market has been limited to obscure players who have been designated for assignment.  The Phillies, with much to sell, may be quiet for a reason.

Ken Rosenthal reports that the delay could be the hiring of incoming president Andy MacPhail:

Impression among some in industry is that #Phillies are in holding pattern on trades of Papelbon and others until MacPhail takes over.

At this point, it seems like a matter of "when" and not "if" MacPhail takes over.

Despite current president of baseball operations Pat Gillick stating that business would continue as usual until he found a successor, these trades have such great weight on the future of the organization, it makes sense that the Phillies wait.  MacPhail may have requested as much, too.  The trade deadline is five weeks from today and the Phillies should be busy.  MacPhail should be the one making the final decisions about trades.
