Phils send Pettibone to mound in middle match against Marlins
Jonathan Pettibone is 3-1 with a 3.64 ERA in seven starts this season. (Kevin Durso/Philliedelphia)
The Phillies crushed three home runs, Domonic Brown continued his hot streak and Kyle Kendrick went the distance in a convincing win in the series opener against the Marlins on Monday night. The Phillies have scored seven runs in each of their last two games. Can they keep this offensive outburst going?
They will have to try to keep it going against a pitcher who has solid numbers against them in his career. The Phillies (28-30) try to claim the series against the Marlins (16-42) on Tuesday night.
Jonathan Pettibone (3-1, 3.64 ERA) gets the start for the Phillies. Pettibone suffered his first major-league loss in his last start against the Red Sox, allowing four runs in the first inning before settling in to pitch five innings. Pettibone faced the Marlins on May 3 and allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings in a 4-1 Phillies' win. At Citizens Bank Park, he is 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA.
The Phillies will face right-hander Ricky Nolasco (3-6, 3.69 ERA). Nolasco suffered the loss against the Rays in his last start, allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Nolasco has faced the Phillies twice so far this season. His last start was May 3, when he allowed four runs in six innings. In his career against the Phillies, Nolasco is 8-6 with a 3.85 ERA. At Citizens Bank Park, he is 6-2 with a 3.31 ERA.
