The Flyers' Paul Holmgren announced yesterday that Claude Giroux will be taking over the captain position, being the 19th in the history of the franchise. He will be relieving Chris Pronger of his duties as captain.
Pronger has not played since November 19, 2011 suffering from multiple concussions. Also announced yesterday, Kimmo Timonen will serve as associate captain, Scott Hartnell and Danny Briere will serve as alternate captains. Giroux will be entering his fifth season with the flyers playing 77 games last year with 28 goals and 93 points.
