St. Louis is exploring trade options for 2022 Gold Glove winner Brendan Donovan, and the versatile infielder-outfielder has already drawn strong interest from the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ search for a corner outfielder might just be taking them to the Midwest. According to baseball insider Jon Morosi, the St. Louis Cardinals are shopping 2025 All-Star Brendan Donovan — and naturally, the Phillies have been connected.

Donovan is one of baseball’s most versatile defenders, earning the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Award as a utility player, a testament to his ability to play anywhere across the diamond. Over four seasons, he has logged major-league time at nearly every position: 225 games at second base, 186 in the outfield (including 163 in left field), plus additional action at third base (46 games), right field (30), shortstop (14), and first base (30). His career fielding percentage approaches .990 overall, with perfect 1.000 marks in both left and right field.

Offensively, Donovan continues to trend upward, posting a .283/.366/.471 slash line this season with 18 home runs and 72 RBIs. A disciplined, contact-driven switch-hitter, he brings both versatility and lineup stability — traits the Phillies covet as they reshape their roster.
