Foerster’s Last-Minute Goal Lifts Flyers Past Panthers

Wednesday’s game started like so many others for the Flyers in recent memory. Giving up the first goal and having to go into comeback mode has become a regular part of the season.
But once again, the resilience shone through for the Orange and Black. After erasing a 2-0 deficit in the second period, Tyson Foerster scored in the final minute of the third to decide the game, lifting the Flyers to a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers.
Florida opened the scoring at 5:21 of the first. Brad Marchand finished off his 14th goal of the season to make it 1-0, marking the ninth straight game the Flyers have allowed the first goal.
Dan Vladar stood on his head for the remainder of the period, stopping 14 of 15 shots in the first. The Flyers managed seven shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second, the Panthers extended their lead off a transition rush. Carter Verhaeghe was left with a wide-open net to score his fourth of the season at 5:16.
The Flyers had a quick response. Less than three minutes later, at 7:57, Emil Andrae‘s shot from distance found the net for his first goal of the season.
At 11:13, another shot by Andrae made it to the net, this time deflecting off the stick of Matvei Michkov for his sixth goal of the season to tie the game at two.
Through two periods, shots were 20-12 Florida.
The Flyers battled the Panthers through a scoreless third period, and another game looked destined for overtime. But with 44.5 seconds left, Foerster’s follow-up on a blocked shot beat Sergei Bobrovsky for his eighth goal of the season to give the Flyers the lead.
Just 21 seconds later, Sean Couturier scored on a tip-in to ice the game with his third goal of the season.
Vladar made 25 saves on 27 shots in the win. Bobrosvky stopped 14 of 18 shots in the loss.
Andrae and Jamie Drysdale each had two points for the Flyers. Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett had two points for Florida.
The Flyers are back in action on Friday afternoon, taking on the New York Islanders at 4 p.m.
