Former Phillies Reliever Jordan Romano Lands with Angels on One-Year Deal
For reasons known only to the baseball gods and perhaps the Los Angeles Angels’ front office, the Angels have signed former Philadelphia Phillies reliever Jordan Romano to a one-year, $2 million deal.
Call it a buy-low move or something.
A two-time All-Star earlier in his career, Romano was a complete disaster during his short and painful stint in Philadelphia last season. The right-hander posted an ugly 8.23 ERA and finished with a -1.7 WAR. When the Phillies needed bullpen stability, Romano delivered blown leads, hard contact, and constant stress.
“Ineffective” doesn’t quite cover it. Romano struggled with command, velocity, and confidence, quickly becoming untrustworthy in meaningful any situation. His departure from Philadelphia will be met not with frustration, but relief.
Still, the Angels are hoping a change of scenery can work some magic. At just $2 million on a one-year deal, it’s a low-risk gamble for a team always searching for bullpen help.
From a Phillies standpoint, this is no longer their problem.
Best of luck, Halos fans.
