Philadelphia Flyers fans should not upset by Ron Hextall’s decision to re-sign Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Michal Neuvirth at the NHL trade deadline.

A busy afternoon for GM Ron Hextall didn’t go according to the drawing board of Flyers fans. But what Hextall did is focus on the short term, positioning the Flyers to add and build in the upcoming offseason and beyond.
As expected, the Flyers moved one of their pending free-agent defenseman, sending Mark Streit to Tampa Bay. for a fourth and seventh-round pick and forward Valtteri Filppula. The Flyers also re-signed goalie Michal Neuvirth and forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to two-year deals earlier in the day. GM Ron Hextall explained the moves shortly after the deadline expired.
Michael Raffl left Tuesday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return. GM Ron Hextall announced that Raffl will be out 6-to-8 weeks, essentially the remainder of the regular season.
The veteran puck-mover has been sent to the Lightning, for Valtteri Filppula, a fourth-round pick and a conditional seventh-rounder in this year’s draft.
