All of the good vibes of a three-game winning streak vanished quickly in what is quite possibly the Flyers ugliest performance of the season. The Carolina Hurricanes were a motivated bunch riding a five-game losing streak and it showed in their 5-1 romp over the Flyers.
The hometown Atlantic Division dominated the Round-Robin, but couldn’t unseat the defending champions of the AHL All-Star Classic in the Final. A 1-0 shootout win for the Central clinched them a second-straight win at the All-Star Classic in front of another sell-out crowd at PPL Center.
On Monday night, PPL Center is expected to be sold out yet again this season. Only this time around, it will be the entire AHL and its brightest stars on display in the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic.
Wayne Simmonds, the player who the Flyers acquired as part of a major roster shakeup, one who wasn’t even the highlighted player in the trade return, was regarded as the best player on the ice on Sunday, and has been among the Flyers best for six seasons now, bringing his career truly full circle.
In the semi-finals, Wayne Simmonds scored the first two goals for the Metropolitan Division in a 10-6 win over the Atlantic Division. In the final, Simmonds scored the deciding goal in the Metro’s 4-3 win and took home MVP honors with the three-goal performance.
During Saturday’s All-Star Celebrity Shootout, as part of All-Star Weekend, Pronger had the opportunity to deliver a hit on pop star and fellow Canadian Justin Bieber into the boards.

Hockey Hall of Famers and Flyers legends Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent and Eric Lindros were named to the NHL 100 list. Six other members of the list spent time during their careers with the Flyers: Darryl Sittler, Paul Coffey, Adam Oates, Peter Forsberg, Chris Pronger and Jaromir Jagr.
