One thing the Flyers haven’t done this season is win consecutive games, and the opportunity is quite present against a Red Wings club that has lost their last two games and has scored just four goals over their past three matchups.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms rolled into Bridgeport on Saturday night looking to build off Friday’s 5-1 win in Hartford. Defensive miscues and an opportunistic Sound Tigers power play cost them in a 5-4 loss at Webster Bank Arena.

The Flyers defense is off to a painfully horrendous start, having now allowed 35 goals in nine games. Part of the problem has been goaltending. But when you allow easy goals to the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, well, goaltending is not really your problem on that night.

Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby accounted for four goals, with Malkin’s second serving as the game-winner as the Penguins held off the Flyers for a 5-4 win on Saturday night.

The rivalry returns as the Flyers prepare to close out a three-game homestand by taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
