Another day, another round of bad news on the injury front for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. The team on Friday afternoon announced Embiid “experienced an increase in swelling in his left knee” following an on-court workout on Thursday.

Embiid had missed the Sixers’ previous six games with a left foot sprain. While the Sixers do say the foot injury is no longer a concern, he will continue to miss time due to his knee issues. According to the team, Embiid will be re-evaluated in approximately 7-10 days. He will miss at minimum the next three games, road matchups against the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets.

Injuries have been a recurring issue for Embiid this season. He has played in just 13 of the Sixers’ 39 games this season. The Sixers, largely due to Embiid’s multiple absences, currently sit at 15-24 and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. The latest injury news for Embiid will make it even more difficult for Philadelphia to salvage this season.

Embiid will now undergo yet another absence this season due to swelling in his left knee. At some point the Sixers should consider shutting Embiid down for a prolonged period of time so he can get right physically. Until then, more injury updates will continue to be in the cards for Embiid and the Sixers.
