Upton

We should know the fate of free agent center fielder B.J. Upton soon.  Jim Bowden of ESPN and Sirius XM Radio reports that the Phillies, Braves, and a "mystery team" are all aggressively competing for Upton's services:

Bowden also says that the Braves have a "slight lead" for Upton's services.   At least we know for once that the Phillies are not the "mystery team" involved, unless of course they are bidding against the Braves and themselves.

One thing's for sure: whoever signs B.J. Upton will be accused of "overpaying" for his services.  However, as we will see with the big TV contract boom in MLB, salaries across the board will be inflated.   So, whatever Upton gets in year six could be considered a bargain by then.

With "final offers" in this week, the Phillies' outfield picture will be clearer.
