Eagles Cruise to 31-0 Win Over Raiders

The Eagles started this game off with a long, nearly half-quarter drive. Relying heavily on the run, the Eagles rode a 9-rush, 5-pass drive that featured a 20-yard defensive pass interference pentalty that ultimately allowed the Eagles to touch paydirt for the first time in what seemed like forever. Jumping out to an early lead was what they needed. Only one incompletion (outside the DPI) and two runs for 0 yards or less.

The defense looked ready to force a punt, but Cooper DeJean was called for a personal foul when Tyler Lockett started something then behaved like a soccer player after a weak shove to grant the Raiders a first down. They held on, however, forcing a turnover on downs when Phillips hit Pickett’s arm as he threw. Hurts came out slinging with a 44-yard shot to Smith before another DPI on a touchdown pass to Cooper moved the chains again. Dallas Goedert just plain dropped about the easiest touchdown past he could have easily put the team up 15 with and then Hurts stood in the pocket forever to take a sack and need to settle for a field goal.

The defense forced a three-and-out before a short pass for 8-yards to Barkley was followed by a terrible play call on a run up the gut and then Hurts missed a screen behind the line to Tank Bigsby to force their own three-and-out. With a sack on third down from the DT position, Brandon Graham forced the Raiders into another quick three-and-out.

The Eagles had another time-consuming drive off of Tank Bigsby and short passes to Dallas Goedert with YAC to keep the ball moving and take the first half under two minutes before Saquon plunged in for the TD to take the lead to 17.

Adoree’ Jackson had two PBUs to finally end a Raiders drive that had moved the chains twice and force the punt before the Eagles didn’t even bother attempting to score and went into halftime.

After the half, the Raiders offense was able to get the ball moving but Zack Baun came up with the interception on a pass intended for Brock Bowers to get the ball back and end the drive. A 32-yard pass to Dallas Goedert who sat down in the hole deep for an easy catch and run started the drive. It was nearly ended by Tyler Steen holding pulling back the first-down run before a Hurts draw took it 13 yards to get the new set of downs. Dallas Goedert took the shovel pass and was unimpeded for the touchdown to put the team up 24.

The defense came up with more sacks for a quick three-and-out by the Raiders before the Eagles started handing the ball off to run clock. The play that set them back was a Hurts keeper that lost a yard and brought up 3rd and 5 after 28 yards on two Barkley rushes and a six-yard Bigsby rush. That forced the pass but Hurts threw into triple coverage to a spot only AJ Brown could get it and the Eagles started the fourth quarter off with another touchdown.

The Raiders lost six yards on their next drive before punting the ball away yet again. That’s when the second-team offense came in and burned clock on a drive that saw a 16-yard pass from McKee to Darius Cooper and a nine-yard scramble from McKee to keep the ball moving. Ultimately, the drive took 11:22 off the clock on a 79-yard drive that ended with a run up the gut at the half yard line where Bigsby could not punch it in. The Raiders were left trailing by 31 with the ball at their own 1-yard line, three timeouts, and 1:55.

That game the second-team defense a chance to play a bit and they quickly forced a fourth down where the Raiders just allowed the clock to run out.

It was a good get-right game for the Eagles against the worst team on their schedule this season. They advance to 9-5 with a 2.5 game lead over the Cowboys for the division crown, which is basically all the Eagles have left to play for after Hurts threw away their only real shot at the bye last week.

The Eagles head to DC next weekend (5PM on Saturday) to take on the Commanders, who are on their way to beating the Giants to snap their own 8-game losing streak. The Eagles will travel to Buffalo the following week.

Offensive MVP: Dallas Goedert

I am hesitant to put Goedert only because of the dropped touchdown pass that cost the team four points. Otherwise, he was the strongest player on this offense on Sunday, who was available on every drive and had six receptions (of the 12 before the second team took over) for 70 yards and two touchdowns with the most YAC in the game.

Defensive MVP: Nakobe Dean

Dean had a far stronger game today. He did not miss the tackles he did last week and ended with a team lead of 8 with five being solo and two being for loss.

Game Notes

• Brandon Graham had by far his most productive game since his return and has been a solid presence on the inside, which is a good sign.
• Jaelan Phillips continues to get home and hit QBs. That trade just looks better and better each week at this point – either the Eagles hang onto an effective pass-rusher for a few seasons or they’re more and more likely to wind up with a shot at one of the highest comp picks should they lose him.
• An effective game, but Hurts’ first half was still lackluster. Still lots of standing to take sacks, two of his three best passes were DPI calls, one very nice deep ball to Smith, and a couple misses on screens. It was certainly a step up and honestly that play would probably have led to wins in two of the last three losses, but it’s still a far cry from the level of play that we’ve seen from him before.
• Dallas Goedert was strong in this one and racked up the yardage, but you simply cannot drop that second touchdown he did. It should have been a 21-point lead at the half.
• Limited reps, but Tanner McKee looked great in garbage time. 3/3 for 33 yards and a big 9-yard conversion with his legs. Very positive for the backup to get that experience and potentially increase trade value if the Eagles are looking at that this offseason.
• Beside not taking the ball to the outside on the last play of that fourth-quarter drive to the outside for the touchdown, Tank Bigsby looked really strong once again in this one. He totaled 17 carries for 57 yards with many of those coming on plays where the Raiders knew a run was coming ahead of time.
• It was a pretty solid game for Barkley, too, despite a low YPC in the first quarter of the game. He ultimately got a few chunk runs and did get a touchdown in this one despite the injury he appeared to be playing through.
• The Raiders offense managed just 72 yards across the whole game with 9 of them coming on that last drive against the second-team offense.

Injury Notes

• Saquon Barkley appeared to be shaken up in the second quarter. He didn’t “officially’ leave the game or get an injury status, but he was clearly feeling off on the sideline and Tank Bigsby saw more work.
